This is one of the easiest recipes to make little cakes and a perfect one to make with children. Actually my mum used to make it with me when I was a child and I can remember helping to make the icing and eating more than I was adding to the cakes!!
Cream the butter and sugar together. Add the eggs, one at a time, and stir in the vanilla extract.
Bake in the oven for 10-12 minutes, or until golden-brown on top and a skewer inserted into one of the cakes comes out clean. Set aside to cool and remove from tin and cool on a wire rack.
For the icing, sift 200g of icing sugar into bowl and cut a lemon in two and add half the lemon to it to create a smooth mixture.
